David Letterman loves recent Scene cover boy Jason Isbell. I know this not only from his glowing introduction and resounding endorsement of Isbell when the Nashville transplant and his 400 Unit played The Late Show this past Friday night (see that performance above), but also via some anecdotal evidence. I'm not sure if I'm at liberty to divulge said anecdotal evidence ... suffice it to say, rumor has it that Letterman has personally patronized (the good kind of patronizing, not the bad kind) Isbell and his outfit in recent months.
Anyway, speaking of outfits, go ahead and watch Isbell, his fiddlin' fiancée Amanda Shires and the rest of The 400 Unit playing "Outfit" in the Ed Sullivan Theater. As Bellheads know — that's what I'm calling Jason Isbell fans, though I hear "bellhead" means something very different in England — Jason recently released his Live From Alabama LP, and he'll be playing this Friday, Dec. 21, at Mercy Lounge (tix!). Now, in the words of King Dave himself, "Buy the album and then get on your computer and start downloading like a son of a bitch."
