Third Man Records To Debut Novelties Lounge, Issue New Releases on Black Friday

You'll of course recall last month's announcement that Jack White's Third Man Records was expanding and upgrading. Shortly after the announcement, the revamped space debuted with a performance from The Shins and Low Cut Connie, and as reported by The Spin, the new digs — from the record-cutting lathe to the public restrooms and men's room ceiling bidet — are in fact satisfactory.

But the revamped Blue Room and the potty situation aren't the only upgrades going on at TMR HQ. As announced today — and detailed in the video above, which features a Reagan-sampling speech from Third Man consigliere Ben Swank — the shop's "Novelty Lounge" will open this Black Friday, Nov. 23. New-to-you features in the Novelty Lounge include: a Scopitone machine — the only one in the world that plays modern music videos, claims TMR — that features 36 different 16mm music videos; a Mold-a-Rama machine ("usually found at zoos or museums"), which creates blow-molded red miniatures of Jack White's Airline guitar; and a full-color photo booth (formerly located in the Blue Room). All this stuff is in the video up there, so watch it.

That's all. Just kidding! It's fucking Third Man Records, of course there's more ...

Now, since Black Friday is of course a rough halfway point to Record Store Day and a sanctioned RSD mini-holiday, record shops the world over will feature some special releases. We'll have a feature on that in this week's forthcoming dead-tree edition of the Scene. Never ones to sit a Record Store Day event of any sort out, the Third Man folks are issuing a handful of releases available at the shop only. These, to be precise:

Jack White, "I'm Shakin' " tri-color single

One-hundred tri-color 45s of the only cover on White's LP Blunderbuss — a damn fine rendition, as a matter of fact.

Tempest Storm Green Series (TMR 129)

Legendary 84-year-old burlesque performer Tempest Storm waggles her ancient jubblies in your general direction on this first-of-its-kind picture disc with "magical Bolt-a-Trope." It's not a conventional record — you put it on your turntable, then put a glass on it, then put this second thing over it and shine a flashlight on the deal and ... you know what, just watch Third Man's Ben Blackwell do it in that video up top.

The White Stripes, "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" b/w "Stop Breaking Down" (TMR 170)

The White Stripes, "Hotel Yorba" b/w "Rated X" (TMR 168)

The White Stripes, "Fell in Love With a Girl" b/w "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" (TMR 169)

Says Third Man, "We hope you'll join us this Friday for lots of fun, gizmos, records and a fantastic sale featuring Third Man, White Stripes and Raconteurs items and merchandise Bundle Deals going at a very NICE PRICE! We look forward to seeing you and showing you our awesome new toys."
