Precisely one year ago to the day, I blogged a little something about Swagger, the latest effort from local garage-soul psych-poppers Fly Golden Eagle. Well, it's been a productive year for the FGE crew. They made an EP with a public-access icon, won the third installment of Mercy Lounge and BMI's Road to Bonnaroo competition, played Bonnaroo, and announced a slew of fall dates opening for monsters of Southern soul Alabama Shakes.
Somewhere in there — July 26 for Blacktooth Records' BBQ, to be precise — Fly Golden Eagle played a show at The Zombie Shop, and local dude Jeff Gentner was there to get some live footage. Throw in some fount footage-style clips of people dancing and what do you get? "Devil's Eye (Basilisk)," the first official music video from Fly Golden Eagle, unleashed on the one-year anniversary of Swagger's release. (You can still stream all of Swagger on Blacktooth's Soundcloud page, by the way). And since "Devil's Eye" features the actual audio from that Zombie Shop show, I've embedded the original track below. That way you can, you know, mute the video and listen to the actual song if you like. That's what I did.
