There's been plenty of babies and engagements and purchases and babies going on in the Kings of Leon camp over the past year or so, but not, it seems, a whole lot of music. KOL bassist (and noted fan of hip, synth-y indie bands like Tennis, Wild Nothing and Beach House) Jared Followill, however, has another iron in the fire. As reported by Fuse.TV (and about 36 other blogs), the youngest Followill has teamed up with fellow Nashvillian and Mona frontman Nick Brown to form a little outfit they're calling Smoke and Jackal. S&J will release their debut EP — a six-song collection titled EP1 and recorded in one week at Brown's home studio here in town — on Oct. 16. You can already hear Smoke and Jackal's "No Tell" via Soundcloud or below.

Given the glossy pop rock that Brown and Followill are known for making with their other outfits, "No Tell" isn't loaded with any surprises. It's tuneful and slick, with a four-on-the-floor beat, Edge-y (not edgy) guitar sounds and nebulous lyrics about how "she" is doing various things. Those aforementioned indie bands that Jared's a fan of? It seems those may have wormed their way into his dome and made a bit of an impact. But hey, there's a naked lady on Smoke and Jackal's cover art, which is rock 'n' roll! As far as the sonics of the song are concerned, don't worry about taking my word for it. Why would you? You can hear all three-and-a-half minutes of "No Tell" below, so have a listen. Destined for success among the P4k set? Flash in the pan? Quality pop? You tell us.
