If you read this week's dead-tree edition of the Scene, then you probably saw contributor Jewly Hight's top-notch piece on the latest release from hometown hero Justin Townes Earle. JTE's record is called Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now, and it's out today via Bloodshot. (Also, you can stream it now via GQ.)
And of course, a brand-new record means a brand-new touring cycle for young Earle — a touring cycle that's already taking him from a local radio station to the Ed Sullivan Theater. JTE recently stopped in at Lightning 100's HQ, where he performed two numbers from his new record: "Memphis in the Rain" (above) and "Am I That Lonely Tonight?" (after the jump). Also, as tweeted by the man himself, Earle will appear tomorrow night on The Late Show With David Letterman. You may recall that JTE killed it on Letterman last year, playing the titular tune from his Harlem River Blues — revisit that performance here if you like.
