Apologies if this is old hat for big Ray Charles fans, archive-combers and folks who are old enough to have seen it when it originally aired. But this clip of Ray Charles preforming "Ring of Fire" on The Johnny Cash Show is primo Golden Nugget fodder, and certainly as good a way as any to start our Leap Day, no? In this extended clip from the same episode, Cash mentions that it was Charles' 40th birthday, and thus we can deduce that the segment was filmed on Sept. 23, 1970 — though I can't say when it originally aired.
Anyhow, we owe a tip of the hat to local funnyman Steve Lee, who tweeted it yesterday. Slice of Music City history, right here. Enjoy.
