In Memoriam: Musicians in This Week's Cover Story

If you pick up this week's dead-tree edition (no pun intended via the use of the word "dead," but there it is), you'll see that it's our annual In Memoriam issue, in which we look back on some of the local figures we've lost over the past year. From Bill Hall to Ned Ray McWherter, it's been a heavy year.

The largest section of the cover story — all of page 2 online — is devoted to Nashvillian musicians who lost their lives in 2011. Some of the names — Charlie Louvin, Barbara Orbison, Frank Dileo and Dobie Gray, for instance — are more recognizable than others, and we gave them obituaries here on the Cream. Others, however, may not be as well-known, even to Nashville-dwelling music fans like (presumably) you and me. Have a look at this week's issue when you can, and familiarize yourself with the legacies these folks leave behind before we grind on into the New Year. Because — and not to be too morose here — any one of us could be among the pages next year. Wouldn't you want folks to read your blurb? Here's a list of all the musicians and music-industry folks we eulogized in this week's Scene:

Harley Allen (Singer, songwriter)

Wilma Lee Cooper (Country singer, Grand Ole Opry member)
