* Local riff-riffic alt-rockers The Kingston Springs played the Austin City Limits fest a little while back, and while they were in The Lone Star State, they spoke with Huffington Post's Mark R. Collins. They ended up mostly talking about catfishing, with my favorite quote being, "They eat lots of crazy animals in Tennessee." I know that's right. Seriously.

* So everybody's hip to Brandon Jazz and Jerry Pentecost's weekly record-spinnin', fancy-timin' party Book Club, yes? It takes place on Thursday nights at No. 308. Well, as part of tonight's installment, the Clubbers will be giving away tickets to Grouplove's Oct. 11 show at Mercy Lounge. Says Mr. Jazz, "I'll announce the night's contest around 10 p.m. via the Facebook and Twitter; it'll probably be something like, 'Whenever I play this GROUPLOVE track, go to the bar and say Cowabunga.'" Consider yourselves hipped. Enhippened. Hippopotamused.

* Local vintage retailers Closet Case Vintage recently posted their Fall/Winter 2011 Lookbook. In addition to the fact that it stars rising local songstress Nikki Lane and a whole slew of other local-rock types, there's also a chance for you to win a $200 gift certificate to be used in CCV's Etsy shop. Hey, who doesn't like free swanky threads? (Not including you, trolls on the lurk.) See details on how to enter the contest — which ends Tuesday, Oct. 11 — at the link.
