* We’ve talked about BalconyTV before. It’s that thing that sounds like what it is — only on the Internet, and not on a TV. And with music. Anyway, they have outposts all across the land, and locals Heypenny stopped off in Austin to film an installment. The veejay for this one is a guy named John, and not your boy Crow. I miss your boy Crow. Heypenny delivers the "frantic, 'Voodoo Child'-cribbing psychedelic power of 'Water' " (as I once described it), before talking to John about wacky costumes, using Internet, Nashville being more than country (imagine that!) and icing one another.
* You guys know about the garage-rock blog Get Bent? Cool place for folks who like things like Jacuzzi Boys, Shannon and the Clams, all things Goner Records, et cetera. Well, if you make them an 8tracks mix featuring at least one Jack Oblivian song, you can win a Trouble in Mind Record Store Day exclusive autographed white vinyl split featuring The Wrong Words, Mean Jeans, ECSR and Jack. See all the details here.
* Will Hoge is releasing Number Seven on Sept. 27, and you can hear his single "When I Get My Wings" at American Songwriter or after the jump. While Hoge isn't a guy we cover really frequently around these parts, "Wings" has a certain Seger-esque, earnest, rough-hewn, big-band charm to it. See what you think.
