Rites of Spring April 15 & 16 at Vanderbilt, Feat. Public Enemy, The National, Kid Cudi, Edward Sharpe & More

Vanderbilt has announced the initial lineup for their annual Rites of Spring Music Festival (April 15 & 16), and this year’s performers cover a hell of a spectrum. At the top of the bill, we've got hip-hop legends Public Enemy, plus newcomer Kid Cudi — or KiD CuDi, for you typographical stylization sticklers. Also appearing will be patchouli-drenched jangle-rockers (and possible anti-heroes?) Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and — as if to say, "Hey DPR, you have to attend now" — my boyfriends, The National. Rounding things out are poppy dance-punk scamps Matt & Kim, plus pop songstress Sara Bareilles. Now, six artists seems a bit light for RoS, yes? The site says a schedule will be announced here in "a couple of weeks," so it's likely that we'll see some additions then.

Gen-pub weekend passes are $55, and will be available at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24. Single-day tickets will also be available for $45, beginning on April 1 — unless that's some sort of anticlimactic April Fool's prank. So yes, even though the state of Vandy's radio station remains in jeopardy, the state of Vandy's mid-April brooding-indie-rock-and-political-hip-hop parties is alive and kickin'!
