In case you’ve been wondering, the Vanderbilt Student Communications Board is still entertaining the notion of selling the WRVU broadcasting license, and the community’s “Save WRVU” efforts are still soldiering on. Big Poppa’s Underground, a WRVU program that broadcasts Friday nights at 11 p.m. Central and “showcases local, regional and national unsigned bands that may not be heard otherwise,” is hosting the latest effort to raise funds and awareness for the cause. Tonight, a lineup brimming with swarms of local talent hits the Exit/In’s stage, with performances from country songstress Stacie Collins, blues-rockers The Cold Stares, alt/pop-rockers The Worsties and loads more. Our faves on the bill are, of course, Los Angeles ex-pats and garage-rock co-eds The Ettes, who are currently gearing up for a follow-up to 2009’s Do You Want Power — hopefully, anyway. Last we checked, the bill boasted nine artists, with a paltry $5 donation requested as cover. That means more bang for your buck, and hopefully that bang will be loud enough to let the VSC Board know that plenty of folks want to keep 91.1 alive.
That's 8 p.m. at Exit/In, $5 for the general public, free for Vanderbilt students with ID.
