Lady Gaga to Play Bridgestone Arena, April 19

Babs says it herself: “You almost have to BE gaga not to have heard of Lady Gaga.” As you may recall, Andy Rooney has not heard of Lady Gaga.

She’s the queen of modern spectacle. She’s commander of endless legions of theater nerds-turned-Little Monsters. She’s Dali’s take on Madonna, and, as The Independent puts it, “the whole pop world wants to take a ride on her disco stick.” Lady Gaga has been touring in support of 2009’s The Fame Monster for months and months now, and she’s just announced that she’ll be extending The Monster Ball tour, which she calls “the first-ever pop-electro opera,” to include about 24 more dates, the last of which is April 19 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

I caught a glimpse — albeit a fairly obscured one — of Gaga at this year’s Lollapalooza, and I’ll say this: Whether or not you can stand her elaborately produced, decadent dance pop, Lady Gaga WILL put on one of the most spectacular performances you may ever witness. And by “spectacular,” I mean precisely that — the most mind-boggling, head-scratching, pyro-laced, costume-changing, back-up-dancer-junk-grabbin’, try-to-look-away-but-you-can’t, obscenity-shouting, gay-community-empowering displays of bombast you will ever have a chance at witnessing.

I’m not necessarily encouraging non-fans to go — I mean, if ticket prices at other venues are any indication, the least you’ll be able to pay for this one is somewhere in the neighborhood of $65 — but there’s a little slack-jawed, gawking exhibitionist in every one of us. And you know what else? According to about 20 minutes' worth of Google-combing — and please correct me if I’m wrong — Madonna still hasn’t played here. That’s one thing that separates the two of them. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, unless you’re a Citi card member. Info below.

Tickets (general admission floor and reserved seating in the stands) for The Monster Ball go on sale for Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena beginning Saturday, September 25th @ 10AM at LiveNation.com, the Arena Box Office or charge by phone at (800) 745-3000.
