Sword-Fighting Skeletons! Hissing Serpents! Harryhausen Rules This Weekend at Belcourt

If you can only see one of The Belcourt's weekend double features in its salute to the late special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen, this weekend's is the one: a pairing of 1958's The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and 1963's Jason and the Argonauts — from which we snagged this still-thrilling sequence, a stop-motion swordfight between reactivated skeletons and stalwart sailors. Yeah, you've seen Sam Raimi's loving tribute in Army of Darkness; you've seen copies and parodies over the years — but the chance to see the real thing on the big screen is a real treat.

The double feature screens Saturday and Sunday afternoon; before Saturday's 12:45 pm show, there will be a brief introduction by local special effects artist Rick Prince, founder, CEO and lead sculptor for Malice in Mind FX Laboratory.
