Found Footage Festival
Where: The High Watt
When: 7:30 & 10 p.m. Saturday, April 13

For almost 10 years, Found Footage founders Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher have made a living mining thrift stores for inadvertent entertainment. Their shows are a tribute to all that is awkward, unpolished, hilarious and heartbreaking about bad VHS: from New Age-y self-help advice and ill-conceived celebrity endorsements to fitness fads like face aerobics.

On these tapes, earnest amateurs provide how-to instruction in tasks they can barely perform, kids rap nervously about such incongruous topics as acne and saying no to drugs, Hulk Hogan pitches an AIDS charity, and animal lovers receive “a list of dos and don’ts for you and your ferret.” Watching these videos, one may be moved to meditate on the poignant downfall of artistic and professional ambitions, and to feel nostalgia for a pre-Internet era that wasn’t really so long ago. At this show, see their latest and greatest finds, along with live skits and hilarious commentary.
