Local Comedian Brian E. Kiley Killed in a Car Accident [Updated]

After an already heavy week in Nashville, we are sad to report that local comedian Brian E. Kiley was killed in a car wreck this weekend.

Kiley was returning from a gig in Newton, N.C., when, according to police reports, his vehicle was struck by an impaired driver around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday. The impact forced both cars to run off the road and overturn. Though the other driver escaped the wreck with non-life threatening injuries, Kiley was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

Brian E. Kiley — not to be confused with Late Night with Conan O'Brien writer Brian Kiley — was born and raised in New York, but he began his comedy career in Nashville after taking a comedy writing class taught by Rik Roberts. Following his stint in the “School of Laughs,” he debuted as a standup in 2007, gradually working his way up the ladder at Zanies and other regional clubs as local support for touring comics. He was featuring as the opening comedian before Last Comic Standing winner Jon Reep prior to the wreck.

Details are scarce about funeral arrangements and donations to Kiley's family*, but NashvilleStandUp.com is reporting that a benefit showcase at Zanies is in the works. We'll update this post as soon as we have any more information about the benefit, funeral and anything else. If you'd like to reach out to us directly, you can contact us at countrylife[at]nashvillescene[dot]com, or in the comments section of this post.

In the meantime, you can see video of Kiley performing after the jump. And, if you've ever had too much to drink, please have someone call you a cab. Not only is it foolish to drive drunk, it can have deadly consequences for anyone unfortunate enough to share the road with you.

*UPDATE: A memorial fund has been set up at Southeast Financial Credit Union, under the name Brian E Kiley Memorial Fund. The fund supports Kiley's wife and stepdaughter. Thanks to JJ Brent for the heads up.

Additionally, NashvilleStandUp.com is reporting that Kiley's funeral will take place on Saturday, February 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in Madison (107 Twin Hills Dr.). Visitation is from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., with the service to start immediately after.
