Style BFF: Michelle Obama

I try not to write about politics because I usually get disappointed by the surge of comments from extreme, ill-informed nincompoops who just want to argue. But I'm breaking that rule on this Inauguration Day, because there is one thing that can bring us all together, my fellow Americans.

Michelle Obama. Hail to the FLOTUS!!!

Loving the bangs, loving her mix of high and low fashion. The first lady donned a coat by Thom Browne, 2006 CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, with a pattern inspired by a men's necktie. Hot. She accessorized with an eye-catching J. Crew belt (her gloves and shoes were also by J. Crew), a Reed Krakoff cardigan and boots (she changed footwear), and Cathy Waterman jewelry.

I am loving everything about her look today. Expectations for this stylish lady are always high, as she continues to raise the bar, sartorially.

Style clearly runs in the family; the first daughters wore colorful, celebratory ensembles for the occasion. 14-year-old Malia Obama looked so grown up in her bright J. Crew jacket, and 11-year-old Sasha is adorable in her Kate Spade coat.

I mean, it's not like any of this is a big surprise — none of us expected Michelle to look bad. But it's always nice to have a happy fashion moment to distract from the volatile state of, well, everything right now.

Because if Michelle ever has a fashion FAIL, I'd be so disgusted, I'd probably have to move to Canada.
