Alfred Hitchcock Retro on Sale This Morning at Belcourt

The new Hitchcock biopic starring Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock will have a hard act to top in theaters this month: a retrospective of 24 legendary films from the Master of Suspense, from the early Murder and Blackmail! to his final ’70s films Frenzy (his only R-rated film, and a movie so sick I've never made it all the way through) and Family Plot.

In between — well, you've got your pick of Sight & Sound poll topper Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, Rear Window, The Birds, Strangers on a Train, Rebecca, Notorious, The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps, along with lesser-known masterpieces such as The Wrong Man, Marnie and Shadow of a Doubt.

Discount passes go on sale this morning at 10 a.m. at The Belcourt's website. Details below.

With the upcoming release of a new Hitchcock biopic about the making of PSYCHO, starring Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock; as well as the British Film Institute’s restoration of the director’s early silent films that will soon tour the U.S., the year 2013 is shaping up to be ‘the year of the Hitch.’ ALFRED HITCHCOCK: MASTER OF SUSPENSE starts on Dec. 26 with VERTIGO—deemed the “Greatest Film of All Time” by the British Film Institute’s long-running Sight & Sound poll. The series focus continues with leading man Jimmy Stewart in ROPE, REAR WINDOW and THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, three of Hitchcock’s most loved films, made mid-career. Next, the series will explore BLACKMAIL and some of the key films from the early sound/British era. The series then follows lead actors and muses—i.e., Joan Fontaine, Madeleine Carroll, Farley Granger, Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Tippi Hedren. Weekend filmgoers can spend nearly every Saturday and Sunday exploring Hitchcock’s work with an actor or within an era, and without a single repeated film.
