Sunflower Cafe One-Year Anniversary Party Tomorrow

Tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 25), vegetarian restaurant Sunflower Cafe will celebrate its one-year anniversary during both lunch (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and dinner (5 to 9 p.m.), with live music, free wine and cake, drink specials, a raffle and giveaways.

It's been a bittersweet year for Sunflower. The restaurant has been gaining a growing following of vegetarians and omnivores alike, and just two weeks ago was named Best Vegetarian Restaurant by the Scene — but on Sept. 23, Sunflower co-founder Gabrielle Mittelstaedt died after a nine-month battle with cancer.

Here's what Lesley Lassiter wrote in the Scene's Best of Nashville issue:

Really, every vegetarian restaurant is my favorite. But Berry Hill’s Sunflower Cafe — which added dinner service earlier this year — wins out for its convenient location outside the vegetarian comfort zone of East Nashville. Sunflower fans were saddened by the news of co-owner Gabrielle Mittelstaedt’s death last month ... but Laura Yazdian will continue to spread the gospel of farm-fresh and plant-based diets to the people of Nashville.

Sunflower Cafe is at 2834 Azalea Place in Berry Hill.
