The World Food Day Concert: Celebrating Nashville's Food Evolution, This Saturday

Nashville's World Food Day Concert takes place this Saturday, Oct. 12, at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park — appropriately enough, next to the Nashville Farmers' Market.

An excerpt of the description, from the event's Facebook page:

Come celebrate with Nashville’s local and organic farms, CSAs (community supported agriculture), farm-to-table, organic and vegan restaurants and markets to join like-minded businesses and musicians by serving as vendors and presenters at this year’s event to highlight struggles local farmers face to survive and bring much needed wholesome, healthy food to the community.

Festivities get underway at noon, and last till 6:30 p.m. Jeff Poppen, aka The Barefoot Farmer, is the keynote speaker, and the musical lineup is pretty impressive, including The Gypsy Hombres, Los Delgados, Bob and Etta Britt, The Hummons, Jerry Castle and the Arrivals, Mike Younger and the Loose Hinges, and a whole lot more.

You can find the schedule here.

A march against Monsanto will precede the event, beginning at 10 a.m. at Riverfront Park.
