McAlister's Deli, the national quick-casual chain founded in Oxford, Miss., in 1989, just opened its first Nashville outpost.

It's a smaller-scale express version of the McAlister's concept, and it's located at 2004 Belmont Blvd. in the street-level retail strip that's part of Belmont University's Curb Center.

(The space formerly held Buzzy's Candy Store. The frozen yogurt chain Red Mango had been announced as coming there, but that plan never came to fruition.)

McAlister's is known for deli sandwiches and fresh salads, and its signature sweet tea. This is the chain's first venture in Nashville proper, but it has had locations in Brentwood and Cool Springs for a while.

The opening of the new McAlister's is one of several new twists Belmont University is bringing to its food scene this fall, including adding a Papa John's pizza spot inside the Curb Cafe. Students can also use "Bruin Bucks" at several off-campus restaurants like Chago’s and Kalamata’s (the Belmont location only).
