New Belgium Brewing Brings Back Tour de Fat

In what has proven to be the most fun combination of bike riding and beer drinking since you stole a six-pack of Schlitz from your dad in the ninth grade and pedaled over to Lumpy Rutherford's house, the Tour de Fat is returning to Centennial Park on June 22 for another day of what organizers promise to be "Beer, Bikes and Bemusement." The event is sponsored by New Belgium Brewing and benefits Walk/Bike Nashville, Ride for Reading, and Oasis Center.

Final details of the event and entertainment are still pending, but you can follow the Tour de Fat Facebook page to keep apprised of the situation. By the looks of the number of people who have already said they are coming, it should be quite the shindig. One of the highlights is always a very unserious bike parade where participants are encouraged to dress up in outrageous costumes, decorate their bikes and take a slow lap around Centennial Park. Riders of any level of riding ability are invited to join in the fun.

After the parade, there will be an afternoon of beer and music as well as opportunities to learn about some worthy local charities. So pump up your tires and dig out your tutu and plan to make a day of it.
