Dine Out for Life April 23 to Help Nashville Cares



April 23 is the date for the 11th annual edition of Nashville's Dining Out For Life, a day of philanthropy to benefit Nashville Cares and their efforts to serve Middle Tennessee's HIV-affected community. I've signed on as a co-chair this year, and the response from participating restaurants has been overwhelming. Last year, DOFL had a record 56 dining establishments donating a percentage of their receipts from breakfast, lunch and/or dinner to Cares.

When the committee began recruiting participants this year, we were confronted by the sad reality that five restaurants that had been a part of 2011 DOFL have closed since then. But thanks to some gentle arm-twisting, the committee has added 10 new spots to replace those that have shut their doors or chosen not to participate this year.

Especially exciting is the announcement that DOFL will be expanding to downtown Franklin for the first time as Chef Jason McConnell has agreed to participate in all three of his excellent restaurants, Cork & Cow, 55 South and Red Pony. Other new spots include Lockeland Table, Feast, blvd, Nashville, Rolf and Daughters, Virago, Rumours 12th & Division, Silo, Pomodoro East, Perl, Aura, Sports Page on Union, Urban Grub and Rodizio Brazilian Steakhouse. It's really gratifying to see that these new establishments recognize that being a part of the community includes taking part in events like DOFL, even when start-up margins can be pretty skinny.

So grab a table full of friends and make plans to dine out all three meals on April 23. If you want to take it a step further, you can even volunteer to host a restaurant. I'll share more information about that soon.
