Nashville Chefs to Guest at Charleston Wine + Food Festival

It seems like every time you turn around, there's another city hosting a food and wine festival. Among the most famous are South Beach, Aspen, Atlanta, Austin and Charleston. In fact, the Charleston Wine + Food Festival is coming up the end of this month from Feb. 28 to March 3, and I just found a flight on Southwest for less than $300 and a midsize rental car for $18 a day, so I'm going.

But I won't be the only Nashvillager eating my way around Chucktown that weekend. The only difference is that chef Tandy Wilson of City House and Carey Bringle, the Shrimp Head, er ... Peg Leg Porker will be honored invited guests of the festival.

Tandy will be cooking as a guest chef Friday night at Lana Restaurant and Bar, where he will share the kitchen with host chef John Ondo. Lana is known for serving Mediterranean fare with a Southern flair, so Tandy should fit right in with his cooking chops.

Bringle is one of two national pitmasters featured along with some local favorites at Sunday night's "Rigs, Pigs + Swigs." Yeah, Peg Leg should have no trouble fitting in with that crowd. Not only does Carey smoke some amazing 'cue, but he usually has more fun than Earth people while doing it.

Tickets to many of the events are already sold out, but there's still plenty to do that weekend (or any weekend) in Charleston. If you want more information, check out the event website. If you want to split a rental car and a cheap room at the Comfort Inn, ring a brother up.
