Weekend Advisory: Night Market and Battle of the Food Trucks

I still can't believe it's already late October. Where has the year gone? So I'm thankful that Jolie Ayn Yockey over at the Nashville Farmers Market reminded me that tonight will be the last Night Market of this year. Night Market has come a long way since it started two years ago. If you're not familiar, it's an evening event where many of the merchants from the farm sheds, market and food court all stay open late. The market also hosts a variety of other guests, food trucks and vendors.

Free entertainment is provided by the Ridgetop Ramblers and Rachel Rodriguez Band plus the Kids Corral featuring the Nashville Public Library's Puppet Truck. We've previously taken the little one to Night Market, but she gets bored just sitting and eating for too long. The Puppet Truck is certain to make this a much more fun event for all of us.

For a full list of vendors, food trucks, special guests and activities, visit the Night Market's webpage.

Also going on this weekend is Battle of the Food Trucks, rescheduled from last weekend for this Sunday, Oct. 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Greer Stadium. If you purchased tickets for the Oct. 14 date, they will be honored. If you haven't bought tickets, you can still do so on online or at the gate.

The $35 tickets include entry into the event, samples from all food trucks and a drink ticket. If you bring five or more cans of food for donation, you can receive an additional drink ticket. All canned goods collected will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. There will be picnic tables available for seating, but organizers suggest that you bring your own lawn chairs. For more information, click here.

The competition portion of the event comes from the food trucks vying for votes from the attendees as their favorites. Riffs Fine Street Food and The Cupcake Collection will both be on hand to defend the titles they were awarded last year.
