Nashville Whiskey Fest
Sept. 22, 2012!!
That's right folks, this is a big deal! On Sept. 22, the 1st Annual Nashville Whiskey Festival, sponsored by your favorite wine and spirits store, will take place at the War Memorial Auditorium. It will be one of the biggest events to hit Nashville and will be packed full of stars and gems of the whiskey world. With Tennessee being not only one of the largest whiskey consuming states in the world, it is also one of the largest whiskey producing. It's only proper to throw a festival in celebration of one of America's favorite spirits. What happens at a whiskey festival, you say? Here's just a few things we have in store for you:
Special tastings through the week leading to the event
30+ distilleries & breweries participating
Educational seminars put on by master distillers
Special VIP hour w/ rare whiskey tasting
Barrel aged beer

In honor of their upcoming Whiskeypalooza, Midtown Wine and Spirits are celebrating by opening three different whiskeys from Four Roses this afternoon. I'm personally a big fan of Four Roses, so you can probably expect to be in line behind me from 4 to 7.
Fido and Bounty Bev are getting together for another one of their wildly successful Beer and Food Tasting Dinners on Thursday, Aug. 2, starting at 7 p.m. the event will be $50 per person, inclusive and features what looks like a fantastic menu from Chef John Stephenson:

Finally, it's time to get to the grapes with a couple of fun events. Village Wines, 100% Italiano and Miel Restaurant are teaming up for a wine dinner featuring Italian winemaker Rosalba Vitanza from Tenuta Vitanza in Montalcino, Italy on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 6:30. Vitanza is known for producing some of the finest Brunellos and other Tuscan wines available, so it should be a really special event.

The good folks at West Meade Wine and Liquor Mart are holding their weekly Friday Happy Hour tasting this afternoon from 4 to 7. This week they'll be sampling two nice wines from one of my favorite wineries, Ferrari-Carano, and they'll be 10 percent off for the duration of the tasting.

The Fume Blanc, in particular, is a real go-to wine when fish is being grilled in the Wino household. Pick up a bottle and prove me right.
Amos and the boys at WMWLM must be peeking though my windows, because their cocktail of the week is also a frequent summer cooler in my house. Enjoy their recipe for that classic cocktail, the Pimms's Cup.

Pour the Pimm’s and club soda into a chilled highball glass or metal cup over ice. Squeeze a slice of lemon as well as you drop it in the glass; then stir gently and garnish with a cucumber slice.
