Wandering Wino ain't afraid of no number on a calendar! And neither apparently are the organizers of a bunch of good tasting opportunities today and in the coming weeks. So walk under this here ladder and help me find my black cat while you peruse these upcoming dates.

First off, here’s one big reason why you’re lucky today. l'Eté du Vin Gone Country is coming up next weekend and has been selling really well. In fact, the Lynch-Bages Patron's Dinner and the Vintners' Tasting are already sold out, and registration for the event ends today. But fret not, Bitesters, if you procrastinated and missed out on the chance to enjoy some of that great Cakebread Cellars wine at the Vintners’ Tasting. Since Dennis Cakebread is already going to be in town, he has planned another event winemaker dinner at Gaylord Opryland’s Old Hickory Steakhouse Restaurant this Thursday, July 19.

The dinner will take place at Old Hickory Steakhouse located in the Gaylord Hotel, with a reception that begins at 6 p.m. and seating at 6:30. Pricing is $135 per person inclusive of tax and gratuity. Dennis will be on hand to discuss the wines paired in the menu, which includes Cakebread’s new 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, and the 2009 Pinot Noir from Cakebread’s vineyards in Anderson Valley.

Cakebread makes some outstanding wines, and their Chardonnay is one of my absolute favorites. If you’d like to check out the entire menu and the pairings, they are available at the Gaylord website.

Summer Citrus Punch

2 Quarts - Lemonade

1 Quart - Pineapple Juice

4 Cups - Citrus Vodka

4 Lemons - Cut into slices

5 Limes - Cut into slices

8-10 - Pineapple Rings

6 Cups - 7-Up/Sprite

Combine all of the ingredients except the 7-Up/Sprite into a punch bowl and stir well.

Cover and chill for a least 2 hours. Just before serving, add in the 7-Up/Sprite and ice.

Up on the mountain in Monteagle, Tenn., there’s a really cool development going on. The Monteagle Inn and Conference Center has opened a little wine bar called Tallulah’s where hoteliers Jim and Lee Harmon meet and greet their guests and anyone else who happens to wander in. Actually, “wine bar” sounds too stuffy. Tallulah’s is actually the living room of their comfortable bed-and-breakfast, and the “bar” part is a cooler full of white wine and a rolling table covered with open bottles of red wine which Jim will be happy to pour for you at really reasonable prices from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. just about every day. There are usually some snacks laid out to nosh on, and the opportunity to talk about wine and the goings-on of the Mountain with Jim, Lee and the other guests makes for a really pleasant visit.

Harmon’s wine selection is surprisingly deep, and he’ll open just about any bottle for you if you’d like to try it by the glass. Because then he gets to finish it if you don’t. If you’re looking or a special excuse to try out this sort of hospitality, the Harmons are throwing a West Coast Wine Dinner at the inn on Saturday, July 21, starting at 6 p.m. You don’t have to be a guest of the inn to attend, but after a menu like the one below, I think you’ll want to find a place to sleep before motoring back to Nashville.

Finally, I would have led this week’s Wandering Wino with this next item, but it seems like Bites is turning into “All PegLeg Porker All the Time” lately. Not that that’s a bad thing. Carey Bringle has had some great news to report and there’s one more major tidbit that I’m still sitting on until details are finalized. But here’s another piece of PegLeg news that you probably won’t want to miss. He’s partnering with Yazoo Brewing Co. for a “Cooking With Yazoo Beer Event” on Monday July 23. Here are all the deets:
