Food Truck Tuesday Alert: Farmer-Owned Blackbird Serving at Second Harvest Today

The folks at Blackbird Heritage are doing the kind of farming we like to support, with an emphasis on sustainability and humane animal husbandry. They're also unique among Nashville-area farms — as far as I know — in that they have their own food truck. I can't think of a more direct method of delivery for organic goodness, and Blackbird makes its Food Truck Tuesday debut today at the weekly Second Harvest event, alongside Riffs, Hoss' Loaded Burgers and Dixie Belle Cupcakes.

And what will the farm team be serving? Blackbird's Jamie Kiner gave Bites the menu scoop via email:

Our menu ... will be the Hot Italian Sandwich with certified organic sausage, carmelized onions, Kenny's Farmhouse cheese and apple mustard on Provence bread, a certified organic lamb sandwich seasoned with mint and lemon with pickled red onions and a cumin yogurt sauce, and our homemade pimento mac-n-cheese.

Sounds like a pretty compelling reason to lunch in MetroCenter today if you ask me.

As always, Food Truck Tuesday runs from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Second Harvest, 331 Great Circle Rd., with 10 percent of sales going to benefit the food bank.
