Nashville Mobile Market Up for $20K Grant; Voting Ends Oct. 13

The Nashville Mobile Market — the roving grocery store that brings the store to its customers — is currently in the running for up to $20,000 in grant money from the folks at Birds Eye Vegetables. To vote for them, follow this Facebook link and go to the "Share the Wonder Grant Program" tab. You'll have to "Like" the Birds Eye page in order to vote (and then you'll need Flash Player version 10.1.52 or higher, but at least you don't have to show a photo ID).

If you haven't heard of the Nashville Mobile Market, it's been traveling Nashville since it was started by then-Vandy med student Ravi Patel in December 2009, focusing on food deserts — areas lacking convenient access to healthy and nutritious food — and recently expanding from South and East Nashville to include stops on the North side. (Here's a City Paper profile from earlier this year.) It's the sort of innovative service worthy of a Best of Nashville mention, though I'm sure the money would do them a lot more good — so make sure your Flash Player is updated and vote for them! You've got until Thursday, Oct. 13.
