My big news for the week was that I ate the $13 lobster sandwich at Au Bon Pain, the really good but maligned replacement for McDonald's in the Vanderbilt medical complex. It was good. Not as good as homemade, but then how often do I make lobster salad?

Next week is restaurant week, and the Nashville Originals, the city's collective of independently owned restaurants, will offer specially priced menus all week. Look for bargains like Copper Kettle's $20.11 lunch for two (with dessert) or Nero's cabernet beef or feta salmon three-course for $20.11. Or spend that $20.11 at Cheekwood and get in the gate and eat lunch at the Pineapple Room as well. Dual Franklins will get you breakfast, lunch or dinner for two at Noshville. If you're super-broke, scrape up $2.11 for a soothing beverage at Drink Haus. The list of participating places is so long it will be hard to get to all of them in a week, but you could give it your best shot.

Sloco Sammies is blowing stuff up. Jeremy Barlow's crew at Tayst is taking over the spot at at 104 12th Ave. S. vacated by LB's marketplace and is renovating this week. Brown paper on the windows sends us to the Facebook page, which hints that menu items will be appearing on the page soon.

The northern reaches of Franklin are getting their just desserts with the opening of Tasti D-Lite, vendor of frozen treats, at 2020 Fieldstone Parkway this week.

Bella Napoli is open in Cool Springs at 1724 Carothers Parkway, phone 678-6508. Aw, you guys are gonna love it, but can it match the Nashville location for atmosphere and romance?

Are you on F. Scott's email list? Get on it right away because F. Scott's is offering 50 percent off food today and tomorrow if you got the secret email.

Business is so sweet over at Dulce Desserts that they're taking the unprecedented step of closing for retail for a couple of weeks (Sept. 5 to 20) while they fulfill special event orders. Go get a cookie or cupcake while you cab. They'll still be taking orders, and will be back when they've done taking care of business.

Looking ahead, next week is the Greek Festival at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Greek food and music, Greek baked goods to eat there or buy and savor later. And retsina to wash it down.

Did I miss anything? Bring it to Bites and tell all.
