Almost as important as how you look is what you are going to eat while you tailgate in the infield or up on the Hill with the common folk. Hmm ... what goes with Jägermeister poured into your mouth while you lie in the mud under an ice luge?
Fortunately, the kitchen at Miel has come up with an elegant and affordable option to plan your alcohol absorption on May 14 with their $99 Steeplechase picnic basket special. If you preorder your basket by Wednesday, May 11, you can pick up a bounty of delectable food on Friday, May 13, from noon until 6 p.m. or on Steeplechase Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon. Each basket should feed 4 to 6 people. Check out the contents:
½ pint smoked salmon rillettes with crostini
Pint roasted onion dip
Pint marinated olives
Pint brussels sprout slaw with blue cheese
Whole natural chicken in pieces, roasted with lemon and herbs de Provence with fresh herb dipping sauce
Sequatchie Cove Cumberland Cheese

I'm not even going to Steeplechase, but for $99 I may just buy myself lunch for a week.
