The establishment is located at 701 Porter Road in East Nashville (in a building that was previously a nursing home and is now being converted to a mixed-use development with retail as well as apartments for low-income, deaf and hearing-impaired residents).
Asked to describe his new place, Brunk allows as some people might call it a gastropub, but he doesn't like the term because of its emphasis on the bar aspect.
"We're really a restaurant first, but we also focused on the beer selection," says Brunk. He'll offer 24 American microbrews on tap.
Brunk, who lives about half a mile from his new business, laughingly calls himself the restaurant's "owner, chef, GM and janitor." As chef, he is best-known as a veteran of the much-loved restaurant MacK and Kate's when it was located in Kingston Springs.
Once he opens the doors for the first time, Brunk plans to operate every day but Monday, with the following hours: 4-10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 4 p.m.-midnight Friday, 10 a.m.-midnight Saturday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday.
The phone number is 739-6624, and the website is www.coopersonporter.com, though when I spoke to Brunk today, he hadn't yet had time to launch it live.
