Popular Farmers' Market Produce Merchant Dies at 46

Jolie Ayn Yockey, marketing director at the Nashville Farmers' Market, contacted us with sad news. Randy Wayne "Ponytail" Boone of Barnes Produce died unexpectedly at his home Jan. 28 at age 46.

Barnes Produce is a year-round merchant at the market, selling honey, jams and pickled local veggies in the winter, the market's website says. "During the local growing season they specialize in heirloom tomatoes and some organic products, as well as over 20 different varieties of apples in the fall."

Yockey says: "Randy was a 362-day-a-year fixture at the market and will be sorely,

sorely missed. Our hearts go out to the many family, friends, co-workers and customers [who] we know cared so much for him."

A note on the Farmers' Market website elaborates: "Randy ... is known widely as one of the most colorful, knowledgeable and engaging people one could meet. Cards and condolences may be sent to the family via NFM: 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd., Nashville, TN 37208"

Visitation is today and the funeral tomorrow. Click here for details.
