I had the pleasure of stopping by Flyte for a quick drink and a nosh before heading out to a play reading last Friday night. Why didn't somebody tell me what an unbelievable happy hour deal they have there? Oh yeah ... that's supposed to be my job.
So consider yourself informed. Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30 until 7:30, Flyte offers 25 percent off on their antipasto bar menu, including a selection of very interesting cheeses that you won't see on a typical cocktail menu. The Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls were ordered, devoured, reordered and fought over by our the entire table. I shudder to think how many little Buffalo Chickens gave their all for our culinary pleasure.
The drink specials are also outstanding. The $3 well drinks made with Jim Beam, 360 Vodka, Polar Ice or Plymouth Gin are artfully made by the bar staff. A $5 martini and Cosmo menu includes what was acclaimed by several members of our party as "the best dirty martini in town." The secret is the mix of green and black olives with a touch of garlic to dirty up the drink. Selected wines are also available by the glass for only $6 and bottled and draft beers go for between $2-$4.
Between the extended hours and the fact that Flyte World Dining and Wine offers this deal on Friday and Saturday, their happy hour stands out from the rest of the crowd.
Flyte also wants to educate you too. Brew Director Doc Downs will be teaching a beer class on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m., pairing New Belgium beers with the kitchen's creative food. Call 255-6200 to reserve a spot or drop by early for happy hour.
