Basil Asian Bistro, the jazzy Thai restaurant in Cool Springs, launched a sushi menu last week. Owner Mae Charles recruited chef Nobu Kobayashi from Chicago to design a menu and train her in the art of sushi. Ultimately, she and her staff will take over the sushi duties.
The expanded menu includes nigiri, sashimi and oshi-sushi (box-pressed sushi). Signature rolls include the Onesy roll (snow crab, serrano peppers and seared salmon), named for Charles' mother and Basil's chef, and the El Camino roll (yellow tail, salmon, bell pepper, cilantro and avocado wrapped in seaweed and drizzled with sesame-chili oil and served with a lime wedge). Other highlights include the tri-tartare appetizer (yellowtail, salmon and tuna delivered with three sauces).
Charles has recently expanded the wine list, and she has added another 10 sakes since introducing sushi.
Located at 9040 Carothers Parkway, Basil Asian Bistro is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
