You know, not everyone thinks Nashville is a “rural shit hole” with a bunch of “rural goths” and “ ‘honky ass’ rock n roll” fans. Last night I was speaking with William Tyler (Silver Jews, Lambchop, KORT, The Paper Hats, more) and Ryan Norris (Cortney Tidwell, Lambchop, The Privates, KORT, more) for a story I’m working on, and William made an interesting point: While there tends to be appreciation and respect for the South’s many historical cultural contributions from Europeans, folks stateside often overlook the fact that blues, jazz, rock ’n’ roll, funk, hip-hop and (obviously) country really owe a lot to the South — not to mention Southern contributions to literature, film and more.
