Shakespeare’s murderous Scot was the focus of Nashville Ballet artistic director Paul Vasterling’s attention last season. The original choreography he created for Macbeth freely mixed elements of modern dance and experimental theater with the beauty and elegance of classical ballet. The production’s overall look was stark and shadowy, a fitting approach given the gloominess of the subject. The overall feel was one of anguished emotion. Musicians from the ubiquitous Alias Chamber Ensemble played composer Kenji Bunch’s score with color and intense feeling.
