Best Knitting Wit

Ann Shayne

Local author and former BookPage editor Shayne is the best cultural ambassador Nashville could ever have—at least if the culture in question involves long needles and woolly booties. As the Southern voice in Mason-Dixon Knitting (—a blog covering all things knitting—she and co-conspirator Kay Gardiner (a New Yorker!) have more than 150,000 fans reading their epistolary correspondence. Shayne's spot-on wit—plus tales of 8-pound balls of yarn, Monteagle carryalls, and projects gone horribly wrong—is on full display in the duo's two books on knitting, Mason-Dixon Knitting and the recently published Mason-Dixon Knitting Outside the Lines. The result—bad pun fully intended—is craftily woven hilarity. Listen up, HGTV: This woman could be the Rachael Ray of pointy objects. —LACEY GALBRAITH
