Not to be confused with Prohibition-era bar raids, Bar AIDS is the newest Nashville CARES fundraiser, and has got to be one of the easiest and most socially lubricating ways ever concocted to give charitably. The premise could not be simpler: Go to a bar, drink, and part of your tab will help provide services for people with HIV infection as well as those with AIDS or related illnesses. (If you’ve ever had a meal as part of Dining Out for Life, this is the same concept, just with an emphasis on liquids.) Jackson’s, No. 308 and Lipstick Lounge are among the bars donating a hefty 33 percent of their drink sales — find the complete list at NashvilleCARES.org/barAIDS — with McFadden’s committed to 50 percent, and Tribe and Play pledging an astounding 75 percent of their receipts. Not that you need an excuse to order another round, but “It’s for science!” is a pretty good one.
