Artist Lecture Series: Keith Carter

When: Thu., Nov. 4, 6:15 p.m. 2010

Watkins College of Art and Design is 125 years old, and they've been marking their birthday with a number of events and celebrations. That includes the new Artist Lecture Series, which kicks off tonight with internationally recognized photographer and educator Keith Carter. Carter's black-and-white images make use of light and focus to imbue his narrative scenes with a sense of the transcendent — if not the surreal. Shooting everything from landscapes to animals to nudes, Carter's work is connected through the Lone Star locations and anonymous Texans that he takes as his subjects. It's not incorrect to think of Carter as a Robert E. Howard of the lens, creating fantastic allegories from the everyday profundities in his hometown of Beaumont.
