Anything Goes

When: Oct. 25-26 2012

Without question, this Cole Porter work embodies all the exuberance and tunefulness you’d expect from a vintage Broadway musical. New York’s Roundabout Theatre Company recently refurbished the lively 1930s vehicle, and the results won them three 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival and Best Choreography. Now the show is embarking on a national tour through the summer of 2013, and Nashville is graced with one of the earliest booking dates. Shipboard romance, intrigue, kooky disguises and singing sailors help propel the clever, enjoyable story, and the score is one of the greatest in theater history — a lineup of Porter tunes including “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” “Blow, Gabriel, Blow” and the familiar and very catchy title tune. The book has undergone some revisions, courtesy of Timothy Crouse (son of Russel Crouse, co-author of the original book) and Sondheim collaborator John Weidman (Pacific Overtures). The talented cast is led by the lovely and gifted Rachel York. Kathleen Marshall directs.
