Fans of Cumberland Gallery and Nashville art in general are likely to find something familiar in artist Andrew Saftel’s work. His prints share an everywhere-at-once aesthetic with the artsier efforts of Hatch Show Print’s Jim Sherraden — minus the text and twang — and his woodcuts and drypoint prints flirt with faux-folk stylizing. Saftel brings an eye for these same flourishes to a new series of photo collages based on pictures he snapped in Bangladesh. Saftel spent a month teaching classes there on a floating studio on the Meghna River, and the prints in Where Water Meets Land feature rural scenes and riverscapes superimposed on architectural images and street scenes.
