An Angel, a Snake, a Rat and a Whale

Christ Church Cathedral’s Sacred Space for the City programs have, in the past, proffered a variety of artistry enriching the human spirit — from dance, classical and popular music and theater to poetry and fine art. Tonight’s original contribution comprises scenes from a collection of stories and paintings titled Jezebel’s Got the Blues … and Other Works of Imagination, created by Merrill Farnsworth, in which God’s creatures bear strange witness to His relationship with the men and women populating the pages of the Old Testament. Hence a guardian angel is alarmed when she is told to step aside and allow a serpent into Eden; a bawdy rat encounters a moment of theological angst while sailing an endless sea aboard Noah’s ark; a blues-singing whale has a word or two for a reluctant prophet trying to escape from God.
