Some Broadway shows are minor hits, so I guess some can be considered minor flops too. Take this musicalization of the popular 1980 movie that starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton and Dabney Coleman as the quintessential male chauvinist pig office boss. After getting on its feet in L.A., the show debuted in New York in spring 2009. Alas, even several Drama Desk Awards and Tony Award nominations couldn’t keep it afloat much past summer. An American tour begun in 2010 provided traction for the piece, and now Keeton Theatre gives us Music City’s first local production. The stage remake features a book by Patricia Resnick, who co-authored the original screenplay, and the songs are by Dolly herself. Jamie London and Ginger Newman head up the creative team, and Tonya Pewitt, Jonathan Perry, Emily Ann Cowart and Lindsey Johnson co-star.
