Actors Bridge Ensemble’s summer production is this thoughtful work by relative newcomer Kate Fodor, whose play was originally developed at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, then later debuted in New York at Playwrights Horizons in 2007. Fodor’s main characters — cleaning woman Theresa and Roman Catholic priest Matthew — are dealing with different reasons for heartbreak and estrangement. When Matthew disappears one day, Theresa feels compelled to track him down, and her search changes both of their lives.
Fodor’s script touches on harder-edged topics such as homosexuality, single motherhood and emotionally bereft teenagers, though the playwright approaches these matters with an eye toward balanced storytelling, turning her sharpest focus on the broader themes of family and spiritual connection.
Talented veteran actress CJ Tucker directs, and her cast includes Brandon Boyd, Robyn Berg, Terry Occhiogrosso, Emily Faith and Aaron Ardisson.
