Junior League of Nashville’s Sixth Annual “Kids in the Kitchen” Coming Up Next Weekend

The Junior League of Nashville is holding its sixth annual Kids in the Kitchen at the Martha O’Bryan Center January 25, 2014 from 9 a.m. until noon. The event is free and open to all children who are in grades one through four. The Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen initiative began in 2006 with the goal of engaging kids in the preparation of healthy meals as a means to educate them and their parents regarding nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.

During Kids in the Kitchen, children will participate in a series of activities where they learn how to make healthy snacks, participate in fun exercises, and discover the importance of oral hygiene and drinking enough water, among other things. Throughout the activities, kids will pick up treats like toothbrushes, healthy snacks, water bottles, and jump ropes.

New for this year's event, parents of attending children will be treated to a demonstration by local chef Irving Brown. Participants will also take home a goody bag filled with ingredients to prepare a healthy meal at home.

Those who wish to attend are encouraged to pre-register online. Day-of registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. If you’re not able to participate this month, the event will take place again April 5 at St. Luke’s Community Center.
