I could be the guy in the faux movie trailer above. I just can't take all the pumpkin-flavored everything that seems to surface as Thanksgiving approaches — and it seems to get worse with every passing year.
Frankly, I don't even like pumpkin pie. I mean, I don't hate the flavor of pumpkin per se. I just don't really like it. I don't seek it out, and I never crave it. I would be fine if I never tasted another pumpkin anything. There are pumpkin items I will eat — for instance, Scene art director Elizabeth Jones' pumpkin bread. (Of course, the truckload of chocolate chips she throws in probably doesn't hurt.)
Even Scene music editor Patrick Rodgers, an avowed pumpkin pie lover, says the pumpkin spice thing has gone too far. "It doesn't belong in coffee," he says. "It tastes like a candle."
Where do y'all stand on pumpkin spice? What else is new?
