Nashville Chefs in Demand to Take Their Shows on the Road

We all know that our local culinary community kicks ass, and the national media has certainly taken notice as well. But now some of our Nashville talent has been drafted to make some out-of-town command performances. Lisa Donovan of Buttermilk Road Sunday Supper has had quite a year. She kicked off her beloved supper club last July and since then has cooked for Thomas Keller and gotten the gig as pastry chef at Husk Nashville. Fortunately for her (and us), chef Sean Brock has been very supportive of her endeavors outside of Husk, encouraging her to explore her talents and continue the Buttermilk Road suppers. As Donovan writes on the Buttermilk Road blog:

His offer to me was “come share what you know and do what you do and let’s do that around each other in any capacity that we can.” He is outwardly the most generous man you may ever meet and, as far as chefs go, I am nothing short of blessed to watch him work and learn from him both in the kitchen and in the public arena. BMR will continue and then some. And a gentleman like Sean Brock would never try to get in the way of that. Lucky me, all damn day.

One of those outside ventures turns out to be an invitation to cook at City Grit in New York City, a wildly popular supper club series organized by Sarah Simmons. Other Southern chef luminaries who have made the trek to Manhattan to cook at City Grit include Brock, Edward Lee, John Currence, Chris Hastings, Ford Fry, Andrew Ticer, Michael Hudman, Anthony Lamas and April Bloomfield, so you can see that Donovan is in some fine company.

She'll be throwing her CIty Grit party on July 28, so if you happen to be in the Big Apple then or want to go cheer her on, you can buy your ticket for $75 here.

Another local hotshot is also taking his show mobile, this time to Illinois. Chef Brandon Frohne of Mason's has been invited by Food Network Chef Ben Vaughn to cook as part of Vaughn's Unplugged DInner Series in Naperville, Ill., outside Chicago on Thursday, July 18. The dinners are being put on by Beth's Table, where Beth Peterson hosts weekly cooking/entertaining classes at Liam Brex Kitchen Studios.

Frohne and Vaughn met last fall in Las Vegas, where they were both competing in the World Food Championships. The two chefs have put together a pretty amazing looking menu:
