A Reason to Drink Beer in the Early Afternoon



Y'all sure do like your beer. The late session of the 10th Annual Music City Brewer's Festival sold out soon after tickets were made available, as seems to happen every year. The event will be held at the Music City Walk of Fame Park, located on the lawn of the Hilton Nashville Downtown on Sunday, July 30. Even though you'll no longer be able to buy tickets to quaff your delicious barley beverages under cover of darkness, there are still a few tickets available for the early session, from noon until 4 p.m.

Tickets for the early session are $35 plus tax and are available online at www.musiccitybrewersfest.com or at Mafiaoza’s, 2400 12th Ave. S. This is a 21-and-older event, and all attendees must have ID for admission.

To celebrate the big 10th anniversary, the Festival is bringing at least 55 local, regional, national and international breweries*, and all beer tastings are included in admission. They have also added a few new twists to the festivities:

“Beer Garb” Costume Contest - Throughout the past ten years, participants have come dressed up in beer-related attire and accessories to show their passion for great beer. This year the festival will feature a “Beer Garb” Contest during each session to see who has the best beer-themed costume. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their favorite beer-themed costume for a chance to win cash prizes. Participants can register for the contest at the beginning of each session at the Mafiaoza’s / Blue Moon Music Stage.

“Beer 101” Tent — This educational focused area will give attendees an opportunity to learn fun facts about beer and learn how to brew your own beer. Ever wonder what beer pairs well with? Cheese? BBQ? How do you get the perfect pour? The Beer 101 tent will feature the Music City Homebrew Club, local breweries, and beer distributors, who will educate attendees on various beer topics. Don’t worry, “Beer 101” is far from a boring college class; you will get to actively participate and taste the beer that is being discussed. The 20 minute sessions will begin a half hour into the event and run at the top and bottom of each hour before the event session ends. There is no additional charge for the classes, but they will be first come, first served and space is limited. Some of the topics that will be discussed include: ‘Colors of Beer’, ‘How to get the Perfect Pour’, ‘Beer and BBQ Pairings’, etc. The presenters are eager for this year’s attendees to enjoy the benefits of “Beer 101”.

Limited Edition 10th Annual Souvenirs - To commemorate the event, a one of a kind poster designed by the famous Hatch Show Print — one of the oldest working letterpress print shops in America — will be available for purchase. The posters have been carefully hand-crafted and are will be a “must have” souvenir. There will be a limited supply available and are expected to sell out quickly. A limited amount of souvenir 10th Annual Music City Brewer’s Festival Anniversary logo T-shirts will also be available for purchase.

New Pint Glasses - The festival is also upgrading from past years’ mugs, and will feature an all NEW souvenir pint glass with the 10th Annual Anniversary logo. Each attendee will receive one glass with admission. Additional glasses will only be available for purchase if the glass is lost or broken.

As if you needed more of a reason to pop the top on a day of fun, a portion of the proceeds will go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. So set your alarm for the crack of noon and get on down there!

*I'm still waiting for somebody to explain why, if there are 55-plus brewers attending, the apostrophe is inside the "s" in the name of the festival. I guess it's the MBA drop-out in me manifesting itself...
